opent in een nieuw venster UNICEF Somalia

UNICEF Somalia focuses on accelerating young child survival, supporting women, providing healthcare and nutritional interventions, distributing ready-to-use foods, providing water, sanitation, and hygiene services, and supporting the protection of children and women.

HIRDA forged a partnership with UNICEF Somalia in 2003. The organizations work together on the management of PFE Mentors, NFE Mentors and CEC Mobilizers in the Gedo region. The Mobilizers and Mentors supply and distribute school kits throughout the region under the supervision of HIRDA. The program has increased the access, quality, and sustainability of formal primary education in the Gedo region through systematic community capacity involvement.

By overseeing the management of education, HIRDA and UNICEF have improved the quality of the teachers, head teachers, and supervisors and, consequentially, have empowered parent and community awareness about education.

In order to promote synergy, mobilizers and mentors work in the same schools, supporting and strengthening teacher/CEC work. UNICEF also assists the local community in establishing school rehabilitation programs.

In 2006, HIRDA constructed classrooms in the Sarinley village near Bardere.
