Strategic  objectives

Based on HIRDA’s strategic position and experience gained over the past ten years of existence, our current objectives aim to increase educational opportunity, improve the position of women, and provide relief for refugees and people in disaster areas. The organization also aims to increase the global Diaspora’s engagement with Somalia.

HIRDA will promote, support and lead projects that will:

  • Increase formal and informal education by creating child-friendly learning environments, offering educational opportunities for children of school age, enhancing the quality and capacity of teachers, engaging parents, teachers and communities in educational activities, promoting the unity of educational organizations, and advocating peace and stability in the regions.
  • Create enabling environments for women in social, economic and political realms, increase advocacy for women’s emancipation from the degrading practice of female genital mutilation (FGM), and increase facilities for the care of mothers and children.
  • Spur self-reliance of communities by increasing individual entrepreneurial skills, promote capacity of community group businesses, and engage communities for peace and reconciliation programs.
  • Increase the support and engagement of Diasporas for mobilizing the resources and expertise of Somali Diasporas towards the development needs of their country of origin. This will involve specific activities to leverage remittances and development need, trainings to bridge knowledge of diasporas and their families, increasing the participation of more Somalis Diasporas on key issues of migration and development, and peace building among Diaspora communities.
  • Promote all incentives for remittances of Somali Diasporas to increase grassroots development resources. This will involve means of education to bridge the aspirations of the migrants’ remitters and receiving family members. HIRDA will work hard to ensure proper usage of remittance fund by extending its financial literacy and small business training to remote areas and increase the channels of remittance.|
  • Promote integration of young Somali migrants into foreign environment and advise them about opportunities offered by the host country in education, social, and economic integration.

HIRDA seeks to involve youth in sport events, debates, exchanges, and fundraising events and to partner itself with other migrants and indigenous youth organizations. See HIRDA’s mid-term strategic plan for more information.
