HIRDA Hosted IFTAR for somali community in the Netherlands

HIRDA foundation hosted on 17 September 2009 an Iftar gathering for Somali community in the Netherland. The purpose of the iftar was to raise awareness of the basic eduction in Somalie and to strengten the network of the community in the Netherland. The motto of the gathering was “education for all”. The Iftar were attended more than 50 Somali prominent community members and somalie elders.

During the Iftar director of HIRDA foundation Mrs. Fatumo Farah welcomed the guest And remarked ”Education of the children in somalia can bring peace and as Somali diaspora we can contribute more than we can imagine, because HIRDA started to support 10 years ago for smal school of 40 children and we are now supporting almost 36 school in south centraal Somalia. We need commitment, unity and financial and moraly support “ Mrs. Fatumo also emphasis the importanse of girls education.

Afther the opening and the quran recitation there was a short discussion about the contribution of diaspora for education of somali children. Four somali intellectuals in the Netherland participated the discussion. Those people were Shamso sh. Hassan (lawyer and intrepreneur), Eng. Mahamed abdisalam Egal ( HIRDA chairman), Ali Ware (director of Somali community in Amsterdam) and Muse Hirsi (Lawyer and entrepreneur). They discussed wat are the possibilities and action that can be taken in the somali community to support schools in different regions and the importance of the girls education in Somalie. They also talked about fragmentation in the somali community and how they can unite to make a difference. The participant agreed to continue the discussions, meetings and dialogs between the community to come joint action.

Ali Ware the Director of Somali community in Amsterdam has closed the Iftar and thanked the organisers and the participant.
