Relief Program

For many years, Somalia has been the scene of natural disasters; from severe floodings to extreme droughts. In 2011 the drought hit an extreme point and caused million Somalis to flee their area. According to the head of the U.N refugee agency it was the "worst humanitarian disaster" in the world. HIRDA has seen the tremendous impact it has had on many Somalis lives and in September we called on everyone to support us on in our efforts to relief the suffering of the Somalis affected by the drought.

In addition to the natural disasters, ever since the start of the civil war in 1991 Somalia has been an unstable and unsafe place for many. The aim of the Relief Program is to minimize the impact of calamities on populations living in areas where HIRDA works. The main activities are provision of food and improved access to education opportunities in the IDP camps. HIRDA has been supported by, among others, Comic Relief, IDRF and HCI in their effort to support the affected Somalis.
