"We believe in equal opportunities for boys and girls"
In line with our objective to eliminate illiteracy through sustainable, qualitative and accessible basic education for every gender HIRDA in partnership with Aflatoun seeks to provide children aged 6-14 with Social & Financial Education in Somalia.
Also in line with our Education, Awareness Creation and Capacity Building themes, this project aims to provide children with the building blocks of life by encouraging them to save their resources and to start social and financial microenterprises. Through this project children will be empowered to make a positive change in their lives and in their communities and eventually break the cycle of poverty in which many find themselves.
Through Empowerment children will be made to become more aware of what their rights and responsibilities are and also equipped with the tools to put those rights into practice.
This project will be carried out through a structured curriculum that begins by allowing children to believe in themselves, understand their rights and responsibilities.
This will be done through manuals that will be developed (in Somali language) to teach children how to relate and respect other people, be assertive and communicate with their teachers and other older people in society. In the same way these manuals will teach teachers and other older people in society how they can communicate and relate with children. The manual will also teach them how to respect and understand the opinion of children.
This we believe will break the cultural barriers in communication that exists between children and the elderly in Somali communities.
