Education project

Because HIRDA believes that education is central to the development and empowerment of people, strengthening of nations, and also a key to the attainment of development, HIRDA aims at assisting local communities in their effort at reducing poverty and increase capacity building through primary education. HIRDA,s project on education are focused on both formal and informal education in Somalia.

With the aim of giving an opportunity to children of school going age and adults to get access to basic education, HIRDA has built two primary schools in Bardera, namely Dr Qasim primary school and Bardera Primary school. These schools in general accommodate a total of 1070 pupils who attend school in two shifts that is morning and afternoon. Also with a focus on the youth (18-25 years) whose aspirations were obstructed by the civil war,

HIRDA is in the advance stage of its pilot vocational training centre in Bardera. This programme has in the past three years given vocational training skills to the youth in woodwork, technical fitting and repairs.

In addition to the above, HIRDA runs adult education centres which supports the educational needs of adults. Trainings at the adult education centres are focused on basic counting, reading and writing as well as awareness courses that relate with the social life of the community; targeting hygiene, leadership skill, civil participation, peace and environment. Most of the adults who have gone through the trainings at the adult training centres are making positive contributions in the development of their communities.
