Relief projects

With the several years of war and natural calamities that Somalia has experienced, HIRDA is faced with the challenge of providing relief services to minimize the impact of war and calamities, improving the social development and emergency relief of local communities and also providing all hands with the tools that will enable them to achieve economic self-reliance.

HIRDA,s projects on relief services are focused on:
1. Providing food to safe lives, shelters for the displaced, water and sanitation to refugees and people in disaster areas;
2. Providing educational facilities for children of refugees and poor families to attend school;
3. Facilitating resettlement processes for internally displaced people with shelter and engaging them with means of income;
4. Reaching out to emerging Somali ethnic communities in east African Countries to ensure their access to basic needs;
5. Reducing severity of conflicts between refugees and natives by offering mediation services to ensure understanding.

In line with our relief projects, we have helped 400 families largely from handicapped communities in Bardere. In this community where both the old and young are handicapped, we assisted them to clear and plough their land, provided them with food and other items during the drought and flood seasons.

HIRDA also donates sacrifices at the end of the Ramadan to the poor and handicapped and also makes contacts with Muslim communities during this period.
HIRDA has at various instances also donated bicycles, walking and other mobility instruments to the handicapped in the Bardere community. This programme has helped these communities to maintain and support their families.
HIRDA has also worked in partnership with other relief agencies during disaster periods to provide relief emergencies and water supply
