"We believe in equal opportunities for boys and girls"
Because HIRDA believes that migrants can play an active role in development; we through our Social and financial remittances projects encourage Somalis in abroad to make useful contributions in restoring development tracks in Somalia.
HIRDA contributes to this role by providing the opportunity for Somalis in the diaspora to reach out to their communities, share their ideas and get involved in the development of their communities and facilitate remittances in rural areas.
HIRDA through this project also advocates for a greater recognition of the role migrants can play in the migration and development nexus both in the sending as well as the receiving countries. This based on our recognition that the contributions that Somali Diaspora make are meaningful not only in terms of their monetary remittance but also in terms of their ideas, practices and skills which are having positive impacts in the lives of people in the grassroot communities.
In line with this HIRDA, under the UNDP QUEST (Qualified Expatriate Somali Technical Support) programme, was able to contract an expatriate to train farmers, in the form of practical and theoretical workshops on, plant nutrients, used selection and crop storage, using pesticides and flood protection.
Also through our projects, HIRDA is also able to engage voluntary Somali experts in the Diaspora who are returning to Somalia for a short time to carry out or assist in the implementation of some of our projects.
Also through contributions from the Somalia Diaspora several children have had the opportunity to access quality basic education in different parts of Somalia
